Tip: For true-to-size results, snap your wall straight-on and measure its height, floor to ceiling, or use a nearby door (most are 80 in tall).
Wabi sabi is a Japanese way of seeing beauty in things that are simple, imperfect and passing. Wabi is the quiet richness of something plain and uncluttered. Sabi is the beauty that comes with age and wear.
This photograph holds both. A single white water lily opens on still, dark water, with nothing competing for attention. Around it, the lily pads are torn and weathered at the edges, showing their age instead of hiding it. And the bloom won't last: a water lily flower opens for only a few days, which is what makes catching it worth the pause.
